| dc.description | Topic: Effect of maropitant citrate monohydrate combined with meloxicam on postoperative pain management in felines undergoing ovariohysterectomy surgery. Analgesia is an issue of great importance for surgical success and patient recovery time. Pain is a physiological response of the tissues, it constitutes an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience intimately linked to active tissue damage. The objective of the present investigation was to evaluate the effect of maropitant citrate monohydrate plus meloxicam in the management of postoperative pain in felines undergoing ovariohysterectomy surgery. The work was carried out during the period April - July 2023, in the facilities of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital "César Augusto Guerrero" of the National University of Loja, considering 18 female feline patients. It was organized randomly in three groups, first group ketoprofen, second group meloxicam and third group maropitant plus meloxicam, each one with six patients. The Glasgow Scale and the App Feline Grimace Scale were used to quantify the degree of pain and physiological parameters were evaluated in the postoperative period at 2, 4, 6, 8, 12 and 24 hours of the 18 female cats submitted to ovariohysterectomy surgery. The repeated measures model of the SAS program was used for the statistical analysis. The result was that maropitant associated with meloxicam presented the best behavior in physiological constants (mild bradycardia and hypotension) and also presented fewer pain points on the scales used for the study, thus concluding that multimodal analgesia was better than unimodal analgesia. | dc.description.abstract | La analgesia es un tema de gran importancia para el éxito quirúrgico y tiempo de recuperación del paciente. El dolor es una respuesta fisiológica de los tejidos, constituye una experiencia sensorial y emocional desagradable ligada íntimamente al daño tisular activo. El objetivo de la presente investigación fue evaluar el efecto del citrato de maropitant monohidrato más meloxicam en el manejo de dolor postoperatorio en felinos sometidos a cirugía de ovariohisterectomía. El trabajo fue realizado durante el periodo abril – julio del 2023, en las instalaciones del Hospital Docente Veterinario “César Augusto Guerrero” de la Universidad Nacional de Loja, considerando 18 pacientes felinos hembra. Se organizó al azar en tres grupos, primer grupo ketoprofeno, segundo grupo meloxicam y tercer grupo maropitant más meloxicam, cada uno con seis pacientes. Se utilizó la Escala de Glasgow y la App Feline Grimace Scale para cuantificar el grado de dolor y se evaluó los parámetros fisiológicos en el periodo postoperatorio a las 2, 4, 6, 8, 12 y 24 horas de las 18 gatas sometidas a cirugía de ovariohisterectomía. Para el análisis estadístico se utilizó el modelo medidas repetidas del programa SAS. Se obtuvo como resultado que el maropitant asociado a meloxicam presento el mejor comportamiento en las constantes fisiológicas (bradicardia e hipotensión leves) presentando también menos puntos de dolor en las escalas utilizadas para el estudio, concluyendo así que la analgesia multimodal resulto ser mejor que la unimodal.
