One of the sources of greenhouse gases that cause climate change is agriculture and livestock, which have a high demand in the northern suburbs of Loja as the main economic means of the sector, accounting for 80% of the total food system greenhouse gas emissions. This research was carried out with the purpose of quantifying the concentrations of CH4 and CO2 through indirect estimations in the northern suburban sector of the city of Loja, applying the protocol of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the Chambi equation, for which three sampling zones were established where 45 surveys were applied in Salapa, 20 surveys in Carigán and 20 surveys in Amable María. The research determined that the estimates for CH4 were 860.34 kgCO2eq, for a total of 2,087 animals including cattle, pigs, guinea pigs, poultry and sheep, the main source being enteric fermentation with 98.05 %, while 1.95 % comes from manure management, contributing 2.53E-11 % and 5.03E-13 % respectively to the national total, the contribution for CO2, the estimates were 6,659.74 kgCO2eq. Due to the management of chicken manure for the purpose of using it as organic fertilizer, the Salapa area has the highest estimated concentrations of chicken manure, mainly dairy cattle, which are the main emitters of greenhouse gases due to their digestive systems and extension of land. According to estimates, emissions from ruminant cattle are higher than those from monogastric cattle, and enteric fermentation is responsible for the highest levels. The estimated CO2 from poultry manure is not included in the IPCC methodology, however, it can be calculated using other formulas. Keywords: climate change, methane (CH4), carbon dioxide (CO2), IPCC estimates, agriculture and livestock.es_ES
