| dc.description | The limited knowledge regarding good practices of oral hygiene habits constitutes a problem in a large part of the child population. In the Manu parish, Saraguro canton, Loja province, a high rate of oral pathologies in children under 5 years of age was evidenced, associating it with the lack of knowledge of the parents and their supervision during the child's oral hygiene. This research aims to evaluate the level of knowledge about oral hygiene of parents of children under 5 years of age, to know in which topics there is ignorance; as well as to elaborate a poster for the promotion and motivation, with the purpose of maintaining a good oral health. The methods applied were qualitative, cross-sectional, descriptive, and comparative; with a total population of 236 parents and a sample of 146 parents, 2 validated surveys were carried out, the data were processed in the statistical program SPSS v.28.0 (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) using the criterion of the correct answer, applying the Likert scale (<4 Poor, 5 Acceptable, 6 Good Level, 7 Very Good Level, 8 Excellent). The following results were obtained: prior to the application of the education program there was 100% ignorance, and after it an increase in the level of knowledge was evidenced, with a total average of 96.6% of correct answers. | dc.description.abstract | Los escasos conocimientos respecto a buenos hábitos de higiene bucal constituyen un problema en gran parte la población infantil. En la parroquia Manú, del cantón Saraguro, Provincia de Loja, se puede evidenciar un alto índice de patologías bucodentales en niños menores de 5 años, asociándolo a la falta de conocimiento de los padres y la supervisión de los mismos durante la higienización de la boca del niño/a. Este estudio tiene como objetivo evaluar el nivel de conocimientos sobre higiene bucal de los padres de niños menores de 5 años, conocer en qué temas existe desconocimiento; así como elaborar un afiche para la promoción y motivación, con la finalidad de mantener una buena salud bucal. Estudio de tipo cualitativo, transversal, descriptivo y comparativo; Con una población total de 236 padres de familia y una muestra de 146 padres, se realizó la aplicación de 2 encuestas validadas, los datos fueron procesados en el programa estadístico SPSS v.28.0 (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) utilizando el criterio de la respuesta correcta, aplicando la escala de Likert (<4 Deficiente, 5 Aceptable, 6 Buen Nivel, 7 Muy Buen Nivel, 8 Excelente). Se obtuvieron los siguientes resultados: previo a la aplicación del programa de educación hubo 100% de desconocimiento, y posterior al mismo se evidenció un incremento del nivel de conocimiento, con un promedio total de 96,6% de respuestas correctas.
