There is a growing demand for cocoa, however, primary research dates back 40 years and, although there are many NPK fertilization studies, very few evaluate individual effects and their interactions. In this sense, there is a need to analyze whether the major NPK elements interact and determine the morphological and physiological characteristics of the cocoa crop. For this purpose, a trial was carried out in the Piuntza district, Zamora Chinchipe province, for five months on a 5-year cocoa crop of the CCN 51 variety, using a DCA with a three-factorial arrangement (N, P and K) with 8 treatments: Witness, N, P, K, NP, NK, PK and NPK with doses of 76, 51 and 68 units for N, P and K, respectively, determined by soil analysis and crop requirements. Alometrical measurements were also adjusted by means of regression for leaf area and fruit weight, multiple comparison tests by DGC (Di Rienzo, Guzmán and Casanoves) for variables with significant differences and correlation analysis. At a morphological level, the growth of vegetative and productive structures was evaluated, at a physiological level, the bromatological contents of fruits and shoots and the contents of macro nutrients and pH fluctuation in the soil. As part of the results, at the end of the investigation the nitrogen applications decreased the foliar area, affected the potassium contents, during the beginning of the productive stage of the crop; however, it contributed to improve the relative growth rate of the shoot and quality parameters such as the percentage of fat in the fruit. The fertilization with phosphorus, increased the length and weight of the fruit and the percentage of fat in the fruit, as well as the content of phosphorus in the soil. Potassium increased the length and weight of the fruit and, improved the potassium contents and the disposition of calcium and magnesium in the soil. As for the double interactions of NP and PK, the former contributed to a higher percentage of fat in the fruit, phosphorus and calcium contents in the soil, while the latter increased the absolute growth rate of the shoot and favoured the contents of phosphorus, potassium in the soil. The triple NPK interaction favoured the phosphorus contents in the soil and the bromatological contents of the shoot; however, fertilization with N, P and K independently or in interaction increased the acidification of the soil. dc.description.abstractExiste una demanda creciente de cacao, sin embargo, la investigación primaria data de 40 años atrás y, pese a que existen muchos estudios de fertilización a base de NPK muy pocos evalúan los efectos individuales y sus interacciones.
