| Resumen : | La apendicitis aguda se considerada un problema de salud común de abdomen agudo quirúrgico, ocupando la tercera causa de morbilidad en el Ecuador y una mortalidad de 2,4 por mil apendicectomizados. Ante esto se realizó el presente estudio empleando una metodología tipo descriptivo, cuantitativo, retrospectivo y transversal; cuyos objetivos fue establecer la frecuencia de pacientes con apendicitis aguda complicada que ingresan al Hospital Regional Isidro Ayora por el servicio de emergencia y cirugía; el segundo objetivo: determinar las características generales del grupo de estudio: edad y sexo, en pacientes con diagnóstico de apendicitis aguda complicada; el tercer objetivo: identificar los factores como: automedicación, error diagnóstico en la consulta inicial, tiempo de evolución y hoja de referencia como causa de retraso en el diagnóstico y tratamiento de la apendicitis aguda complicada y el cuarto objetivo establecer la frecuencia de complicaciones en pacientes que han sido intervenidos quirúrgicamente con diagnóstico de apendicitis aguda complicada. La muestra estuvo constituida por 53 pacientes que cumplieron los criterios de inclusión; obteniendo como resultados las edades más frecuencia entre niños de 5 y 13 años, y adultos de 36 y 64 años con 25%, predominando en el género femenino, 17% tuvo error diagnóstico en la consulta inicial; el tiempo transcurrido desde el inicio de los síntomas hasta la cirugía es > 73 horas con 45%, concluyendo que entre las principal causa que retrasa el diagnóstico y tratamiento es la automedicación y la complicación más frecuente es la peritonitis localizada con 57%. | Descripción : | The acute appendicitis is considered as a common health problem of acute surgical abdomen, occupying the third cause of morbidity in Ecuador and a mortality of 2,4 thousand appendectomies. Due to this, it was carried out the present study using a descriptive, quantitative, retrospective and transversal methodology; which objectives were to establish the frequency of patients with acute appendicitis that attend to the “Hospital Regional Isidro Ayora” for the emergency service and surgery; the second objective was to determine the general features of the group study: age and sex, in patients with diagnosis of complicated acute appendicitis; the third objective was to identify the factors such as self-medication, diagnosis error in the initial consultation, time of evolution and reference sheet as a cause of delaying in the diagnosis and treatment of complicated acute appendicitis and the fourth objective was to establish the frequency of complications in patients that have been surgically intervened with diagnosis of complicated acute appendicitis. The sample consisted of 53 patients that accomplish with the inclusion criteria; obtaining as results the frequent ages between children of 5 and 13 years, and adults of 36 and 64 years with 25%, predominating in the female gender, 17% had diagnosis error in the initial consultation: the time elapsed from the beginning of symptoms until the surgery is 73 hours with 45%, concluding that the main cause that delays the diagnostic and treatment is the self-medication and the most common complication is the peritonitis located with 57%.
