| dc.description | The present investigation "EMISSION OF CARBON DIOXIDE FROM MOTOR VEHICLES IN THE CITY OF LOJA" helps to improve air quality through the analysis of carbon dioxide emissions from motor vehicles in the city, as a result of a characterization of the urban vehicle fleet and the estimation of the level of emission of carbon dioxide (CO2) derived from motor vehicles. To characterize the fleet was applied the technique of the survey focused primarily at the year and brand of vehicles, quantity and type of fuel, mileage, speed of movement, among other parameters. In the same way the vehicular capacity, in eight points higher flow in the urban area of the city, and on the basis of six categories of vehicles (motorcycles, cars, trucks, taxis, trucks and buses). It should be noted that information was also gathered from primary institutions, such as: the Municipal Unit of Land Transport Transit and Road Safety (UMTTTSV), Registration Center of vehicular Decentralized Autonomous Municipal Government of Loja, among others. Obtained the information basis, it is calculating the amount of CO2 emission by applying the general formula generated by the Environmental Protection Agency of the United States (USEPA); resulting in the city of Loja the fleet emits 253.520 tonnes of CO2 a year, being the private transport category that contributes most (68.43%) to the total emission of the fleet in the city of Loja The factors that determine the amount of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere, from the automotive transport land, are mainly: the number of vehicles and the hours of operation. | dc.description.abstract | La presente investigación, “EMISIÓN DE DIÓXIDO DE CARBONO DE VEHÍCULOS AUTOMOTORES EN LA CIUDAD DE LOJA”, contribuye a mejorar la calidad del aire a través del análisis de las emisiones de dióxido de carbono de los vehículos automotores en la ciudad, como resultado de una caracterización del parque automotor urbano y la estimación del nivel de emisión de dióxido de carbono (CO2) emanado por los vehículos automotores. Para caracterizar al parque automotor se aplicó encuestas, enfocadas a recopilar información sobre el estado de los vehículos, año, marca, cantidad y tipo de combustible, kilómetros recorridos, velocidad de circulación, entre otros parámetros. De igual forma se realizó el aforo vehicular, en ocho puntos de mayor flujo en la zona urbana de la ciudad, y en base a seis categorías de vehículos (motos, autos, camionetas, taxis, camiones, buses). Cabe señalar que también se recopiló información primaria proveniente de instituciones como: la Unidad Municipal de Transporte Terrestre Tránsito y Seguridad Vial (UMTTTSV), Centro de Matriculación Vehicular del Gobierno Autónomo Descentralizado Municipal de Loja, entre otras. Obtenida la información base, se calculó la cantidad de emisión de CO2 aplicando la formula general generada por la Agencia de Protección Ambiental de los Estados Unidos (USEPA); dando como resultado que en la ciudad de Loja el parque automotor emite 253 520 toneladas de CO2 al año, siendo el transporte privado la categoría que contribuye mayor (73,77 %), a la emisión total del parque automotor en la ciudad de Loja Los factores que determinan la cantidad de emisión de CO2 a la atmósfera, provenientes del transporte automotor terrestre, son principalmente: el número de vehículos y las horas de operación.
