Descripción : Tropical forests are characterized by their great ecosystem diversity, biological richness and supply of ecosystem goods and services, being an essential part of the livelihoods of many people who use plants in the form of non-timber forest products (NTFPs). This research aims to contribute to scientific knowledge by generating information on the traditional and current uses of NTFPs in five communities in Quilanga canton. A total of 234 surveys were administered to men and women, distributed in three age groups, using a 13-question form. The questions were tabulated and interpreted; the value of use, frequency of use and value of significant use were calculated; and a guide of useful plants of the canton was elaborated. A total of 139 species were recorded, comprising 130 genres and 68 families including trees, shrubs, herbs, epiphytes and lianas. Trees are the most used form of life, with the leaves being the most used part, either raw or natural, cooked or in infusion. The species with the highest value of use is Jacaranda sparrei, which is present in seven categories: handicrafts, utensils and construction materials, medicine and pharmaceutical principles, veterinary medicine, mystical, celebrations and rituals, ornamentals and insect honey. The categories with the highest number of species are for human medicine; represented by Piper aduncum, Cinchona officinalis, and handicrafts using Zanthoxylum sp., Coffea arabica. The species with the highest level of significant use were Psidium guajava and Bixa orellana. There is a minimal difference between the knowledge of species between men and women, 127 are known by women and 124 by men; in terms of knowledge by age group, older adults are the ones who know and use the species that provide NTFPs the most, and in the group of young people the knowledge and traditional use is eroding, as they claim to know, but no longer use. Key words: Non-timber forest products, knowledge, resources, categories, use value, level of use
