Resumen : Una de las funciones del personal de enfermería es ser educador con el fin de prevenir enfermedades y promover la salud, lo que nos compromete a adoptar conductas sanas y beneficiosas, y con el ejemplo lograr promocionar estilos de vida saludables. El sobrepeso y obesidad son alteraciones metabólicas desencadenantes de problemas cardiovasculares o diabetes, enfermedades que repercuten directamente en la calidad de vida de las personas. El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar los factores asociados al sobrepeso y obesidad en el personal de enfermería del Hospital General IESS Machala durante el periodo mayo 2019 – abril 2020. Fue un estudio con enfoque cuantitativo, de alcance descriptivo y de cohorte transversal. Se trabajó con una muestra de 153 enfermeras/os, la técnica aplicada fue la toma de peso y talla para determinar el IMC, y como instrumento una encuesta de factores asociados. Como resultado correspondiente a las características sociodemográficas del grupo de estudio se obtuvo que predominó el sexo femenino en un 85,62%, el rango de edad de mayor prevalencia es de 21-30 años en un 45,10%, y el estado civil casado en un 42,48%. El 32,28% del personal se encuentra con un IMC normal, el 52,94% con sobrepeso y, el 14,38% con obesidad. Entre los factores asociados a sobrepeso y obesidad destaca la actividad física inadecuada en el 64,70% del personal de salud, hábitos alimenticios inadecuado en el 62,09% y de actividad laboral jornadas de más de 12 horas en un 12,42%. Se concluyó que existe una relación una relación significativa entre sobrepeso-obesidad con hábitos alimenticios (p valor < 0,05), mas no existe dicha asociación con actividad física y jornada laboral (p valor > 0,05). Overweight and obesity are metabolic alterations triggering cardiovascular problems or diabetes, diseases that directly impact people’s quality of life. The objective of this study is to determine the factors associated with overweight and obesity in the nursing staff of IESS from the General Hospital of Machala during the period of May 2019- April 2020. It was a study with a quantitative approach, descriptive scope and cross-cutting cohort. Worked with a sample of 153 nurses, the technique applied was weight-taking and size-to-size in order to determine the IMC, and as an instrument a survey of associated factors was applied. As a result of sociodemographic characteristics of the studied group, it was obtained that female sex predominated in a 85,62%, the highest prevalence age range is 21-30 years by 45.10% and marital status by a 42.28% of staff are referred to a regular and normal IMC, 52.94% overweight and 14.38% obese. Among the associated factors with overweight and obesity inadequate physical activity is highlighted in a 64.70% from Health Workers, inadequate eating habits in a 62.09% and working activity hours of more than 12 hours by a 12.42%. It was concluded that there is a significant relationship between overweight-obesity with eating habits ( p value < 0,05), more there is no such association with physical activity and working hours (p value > 0,05).
