Descripción : The present study proposes a design of wastewater treatment of the National University of Loja, La Argelia sector, in view of the fact that wastewater treatments are fundamental for the care of the environment and public health. The flow rate in the main discharge was measured using a hydraulic windlass, the result of the flow measurement indicating that there is no variation in flow rate throughout the day with the average flow value being 1076 m^3/ d; and subsequently the characterization was carried out in the facilities of the Chemical Analysis Laboratory (LAQ / UNL) determining the physical, chemical and microbiological properties. The results of the laboratory analysis established that the parameters that are outside the limits of the Unified Text of the Secondary Legislation of the Ministry of Environment (TULSMA) are: SST 137.60 mg / l, BOD5 282.00 mg / l, COD 252.00 mg / l, Electrical Conductivity 36.2 µs / cm, Turbidity 170.00 NTU, Sulfates 1335 mg / l, Nitrates 14.85 mg / l, Total Coliforms 500000.00 CFU / 100ml and Fecal Coliforms 270000.00 CFU / 100ml. With the selected parameters, the different wastewater treatment alternatives will be processed and analyzed; determining a mixed treatment design (physical-biological) would be the most appropriate, discarding chemical processes among them for the cost of operation and maintenance. The system will have a useful life of 20 years and will be considered for a future population of 21520 inhabitants. The mixed design proposal consists of: arrival channel, grid, sand trap, anaerobic lagoon, peat beds and drying era. Projected for 75% BOD5 remover, 70% COD, 80% fecal coliforms and 90% Total Coliforms. With a referential budget $ 54300.00 dollars, and the operation and maintenance value $ 8800.00 dollars, annual. Therefore, it establishes that the proposal is viable and contributes to use treated waters with other fines; and have the institution a system where teachers and students can carry out activities with wastewater treatment. Keywords: Characterization, parameters, treatments, wastewater.
